Community Involvement Internship Program
Job Description
Community Involvement Interns are responsible for being advocates for service on and off campus and acting as liaisons between student volunteers and community agency partners for Community Service-Learning (CSL) and the Office of Campus Programs. This includes the following:
- Espouse mission and values of service-learning, community
voice, student development in academic, personal, social,
and/or professional growth by demonstrating competence,
respect toward others and self, and passion for service.
- Commit to an internship term of 12 months, service time
of 10-12 hours per week, and attendance to trainings, retreats,
and weekly meetings such as staff meetings and one-on-one
meetings with advisor(s).
- Receive academic credit per semester for internship and
adhere to the Learning-Contract created by you and advisor.
- Provide front-line customer service: consult with students
on identifying community service involvement opportunities,
fielding questions from students, staff, faculty, and community
agencies.
- Manage of 10-12 student volunteers and one partner agencies
within a particular issue area by working with their respective
area senior intern, involving: outreach, recruitment, orientation,
placement, reflection, evaluation, and partnership-building
such as agency site visits, ensuring volunteers perform
direct service, responding to community and agency needs,
and program evaluation.
- Coordinate smaller service events within issue area with
partner agencies.
- Submit a monthly report inclusive of but not limited to:
set objectives, tasks met, future goals, update on volunteers
and agencies, and any achievements and problems or challenges.
- Maintain portfolio that includes public relations materials
such as flyers, posters, newspaper or website postings;
assignments such as agendas, pertinent correspondence, training
materials, etc.; evaluations, reflection pieces; awards/recognitions;
pictures; intentional writing assignment; and any materials
produced by you to record your experiences and skills gained
in your internship.
- Participate in and assist with CSL & OCP-sponsored events, including First Look Fair, Read Across America Day, Saturday of Service, Stampfest, Alternative Spring Break, Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, etc.
