H & HA Facts

It is highly difficult to measure the number of homelessness or the number of individuals experiencing hunger.

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless (www.nationalhomeless.org), 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of those individuals being children are likely to experience homelessness in a given year. That translates to around 1% of the United States population. This number varies depending on the sources.

Hunger is even more prevalent in the United States, where according to the National Food Bank (www.feedingamerica.org) 36.2 million Americans lived in food insecure households, and 12.4 million of those being children. According to the Food Bank, that number has risen in the past 3 years.
