Submit a 2010 Summer Alternative Break Trip Leader Application

Trip Leader Description

Trip Leaders are integral to the success of the Alternative Break Program. Serving as an AB Trip Leader requires year-long involvement and a significant time commitment. All AB Trip Leaders are expected to be fully committed to training, trip logistics planning, participant selection, team facilitation, and local engagement, among other tasks throughout the year.

Training:

  • Attend the Fall Meeting on Friday, Dec 11th or Saturday, Dec 12th Time: TBD
  • Attend and fully participate in all weekly/biweekly trainings during Spring 2010 (exact dates and time TBD after selection)
  • Attend a day-long AB Trip Leader retreat on Saturday, February 13th*
  • Attend all additional trainings and meetings during Spring 2010, as scheduled

Trip Logistics:

  • Establish a partnership with and serve as the main contact for your local and trip service agencies
  • Work with your co-Trip Leader to plan the logistics of your trip, including housing, food, educational activities, and leisure activities

Participant Selection:

  • Help conduct group interviews for prospective participants
  • Work with co-Trip Leader and other Trip Leaders to select participants for your trip

Team Facilitation:

  • Facilitate weekly/biweekly team meetings once participants are selected
  • Help to plan and coordinate fundraising efforts with your team
  • Work with your co-Trip Leader to educate yourself and your team about the theme on which your team will be focusing
  • Facilitate reflection activities for your team during your trip
  • Ensure that university and program policies are upheld at all times during the trip

Local Engagement:

  • Work with your co-Trip Leader to establish a local community service partnership that your team will work with before and after Spring Break in order to gain a deeper understanding about the theme of your trip, as well as contribute to your local community

Overall:

  • Assist Program Leaders in their responsibilities upon request, including fundraising, outreach and development, and finances
  • Commit to entire week of your trip:
    • Winter Break: January 13-23, 2010
    • Spring Break: March 13-21, 2010
    • Summer Break: May 22-29 (7-day trips) or May 22-June 2 (10-day trips)
  • TL tasks might vary from years past, we ask future trip leaders to be flexible and open to changes
